Domain disclaimer¶
Edit, in the admin console, the HTML and plain-text legal notice added to outgoing mail for each domain.
Global administrator or domain administratorAdmin console › Tools and Migration › Domain Disclaimer
A global administrator sees all domains; a domain administrator sees only their own.
Domain list¶
- Click Tools and Migration › Domain Disclaimer. The list shows Status (On/Off), Content and Warning for each domain; above it, the global default for domains without their own setting is shown.
- Select the domain row (1) and click Edit (2).

Adding a disclaimer¶
- In the edit screen tick Disclaimer is active for this domain (1).
- Type the text in the Rich text (HTML) editor (2); the toolbar adds bold, colour, links or images. Use absolute
httpsaddresses for images. - The Plain text version is derived automatically until you edit it. After changing the HTML, click Derive plain text from rich text (3) to refresh it.
- Check the footer in Preview at the bottom of the page.
- Save (4). Cancel drops your changes, Clear empties the text, Back to list returns to the list.
- To put it into effect, run as root on the mail transfer (MTA) server:
/opt/zimbra/libexec/profelis-disclaimer-apply <domain> - Send a test message outside the organisation and check the footer.

Save alone is not enough
Save only writes the setting. For the notice to be added to messages, profelis-disclaimer-apply <domain> is required; zmmtactl restart alone is not enough. Run the same command to turn it off as well.
Turning it off temporarily¶
Select the domain, click Edit, untick Disclaimer is active for this domain, Save, then run profelis-disclaimer-apply <domain> on the MTA. The content is kept while it is off. Messages already sent do not change.
Adding it only to outgoing mail¶
A global administrator can tick Only add the disclaimer to outgoing (external) mail - server-wide setting on the list screen (3 in the image above). The setting affects all domains and takes effect in about a minute (for immediate effect run su - zimbra -c 'zmamavisdctl restart' on the MTA). All domains on this server count as internal; in a message with mixed recipients only the external copy gets the footer.
Subdomains
If a subdomain is off and its parent domain is on, senders from the subdomain get the parent domain's text. The apply command shows this as a warning.
